A Dispute Reaches Court

Onkholer filed the complaint on October 6, 2026, at Delhi’s Saket Court. The matter is being heard by Judicial Magistrate First Class Shivam Gupta. The next hearing is scheduled for November 19. The complaint concerns remarks allegedly made by Mary Kom during a television interview on January 11, 2026. Onkholer claims that her statements presented him as dishonest, unemployed and financially dependent on the celebrated boxer.

Words That Sparked Controversy

According to the complaint, Mary Kom allegedly accused her former husband of misusing her money. The dispute also involves claims about unauthorised bank withdrawals, loans taken in her name and financial responsibilities towards their children.Onkholer argues that these statements have harmed his personal and professional reputation. He maintains that he supported Mary Kom throughout her boxing career and rejects the image presented in the disputed remarks. However, these allegations remain contested. The court has not established the truth of either side’s claims.

A Marriage Comes Apart

Mary Kom and Onkholer married on March 12, 2005. Their relationship lasted nearly two decades before their separation in December 2023.Following their separation, disagreements over finances and their marriage became public. Mary Kom had previously raised allegations of financial misconduct against her former husband. Onkholer has disputed her claims, and the latest complaint adds another dimension to their ongoing dispute.

What Happens Next?

The complaint invokes Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with defamation. Onkholer is seeking legal action over the statements he considers damaging. The upcoming hearing will focus on pre-summoning evidence. The court will examine whether sufficient grounds exist to proceed against Mary Kom.

Justice Yet to Decide

The case highlights how public statements during personal disputes can lead to legal consequences. However, filing a complaint does not establish guilt. The court’s proceedings will determine whether the allegations satisfy the legal requirements for criminal defamation. Until then, the claims made by both parties must be treated with caution.
