Akansha singh, Bhopal: A murder case in Bihar’s Samastipur district has taken a dramatic turn after police arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly travelled nearly 2,000 km from Surat to his native village to kill his father.

According to police, the accused, identified as Shiv Shankar, was allegedly inspired by the Bollywood crime thriller Drishyam and tried to plan the murder in a way that would make it difficult for investigators to trace him.

The accused, Shiv Shankar, 26, allegedly hacked his 50-year-old father Raghuveer Sahni with an axe while he was sleeping at his home in Bihar’s Samastipur district.

The incident reportedly took place late on July 26 in Darwa village under the Halai police station area. Police said Shiv Shankar’s 50-year-old father, Raghuveer Sahni, was sleeping outside his house when he was allegedly attacked with an axe.

Investigators suspect that a family dispute, reportedly involving property and strained relations between the father and son, may have been behind the murder. After the alleged attack, Shiv Shankar left the village and began his return journey, hoping to avoid leaving behind any clear evidence.

He Switched Off His Phone

Police said the accused had switched off his mobile phone before travelling from Surat to Bihar. The move allegedly appeared to be part of his plan to keep his location hidden.

He reportedly travelled through Patna, Hajipur and Patori before reaching his village. Police said he then took an e-rickshaw and walked through fields before reaching the house. However, his carefully planned strategy reportedly suffered a major setback when he switched his phone on at Patori.

One Phone Call Changed the Investigation

According to investigators, after reaching Patori, Shiv Shankar allegedly called his wife. He then switched the phone off again.

That brief phone activity became a crucial clue for the police. Investigators examined his call records and mobile tower locations and found that his phone had been active in the Patori area around the time of the murder.

Police also reportedly noticed that he had returned to Surat soon after the incident. The technical evidence eventually helped investigators trace him.

Arrest After Digital Trail

Police traced Shiv Shankar to Surat and arrested him on October 1. During questioning, investigators said, he allegedly admitted his involvement in the crime.

The case has highlighted how even a carefully planned crime can unravel because of one small mistake. What the accused allegedly tried to execute like a Drishyam-style plan ultimately left behind a digital trail—and one phone call helped police follow it.
