Kajal Jatav: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released its extended invitation of 534 new members on June 26, 2025, which is one of the biggest invitations ever. The Oscar Academy bringing total membership to 11,120 with 10,143 voting members. This move is not only another effort towards promoting diversity but also a strong initiative to connect the global film community.
Star-Studded Addition
Many famous faces were invited this year for the Oscar Academy including Indian artists like Aayushman Khurrana, Kamal Hassan etc. Other international faces like Ariana Grande, Sebastian Stan, Brandie Charlie, Adrew watt, Branford Marsalis, Conen O’ Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Gillian Anderson were among the 534-artists invited to join the Oscar Academy of Motion Pictures arts and Sciences.



Recognition of Technical and Creative Contribution
This year, not only acting, but also direction, writing, editing, music and especially casting directors have been given full recognition. It is worth nothing that for the first time in the next Oscar ceremony, the category of “best casting” is being added. Similarly, from 2028, a separate category for stunt design will also be introduced.

New Policies and Changes
The Academy has also announced that from now on, voting members will be required to watch nominated films, so that voting can be fair and informed. This rule is a commendable quality of the Academy.
Inclusion and Controversy
Despite wide recognition, Karla Sofia Gascon-the first openly transgender Best Actress nominee (Emilia Perez) was notably excluded, stirring debate. Industry observers speculate this decision ties to past controversial comments.
