Report by: Swapnaleena Paul: A Chinese tech creator has captured global attention after building a custom all-in-one gaming console that combines the hardware of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 into a single working system. The one of a kind device nicknamed the“Ningtendo PXBOX 5” was created by YouTuber and hardware modder “XNZ”, also known online as” 小宁子”, and has gone viral across gaming and technology communities.
Inspiration Behind the Build
The project was inspired by a common frustration among gamers juggling multiple consoles to access exclusive titles. Rather than stacking devices or relying on HDMI switchers the creator set out to engineer a single unified machine that could house all three platforms. The result is a compact custom built console that merges three current generation systems into one chassis while keeping each platform fully functional.
Engineering and Design Challenges
The build required extensive modification. XNZ dismantled the original consoles and removed their standard power supplies cooling systems and outer shells. The core motherboards of thePS5 Xbox Series X and Switch 2 were then mounted on different sides of a custom triangular chassis. The design draws inspiration fromApple’s cylindrical Mac Pro with components arranged around a central cooling core to save space and manage airflow efficiently.
Cooling and Thermal Management
Cooling was one of the most complex challenges. Instead of using three separate cooling solutions the mod relies on a shared thermal system built around a central aluminium heatsink and a single large fan. Because only one console operates at a time the shared cooling setup is able to maintain safe operating temperatures even during extended gaming sessions.
Power and Platform Switching
Power management was addressed using a single250-watt gallium nitride power supply. This unit provides enough power to run one console while the others remain in a low-power standby state. Switching between systems is handled through a custom controller and a physical button on the console exterior. With a press of the button, the user can move from PlayStation to Xbox to Nintendo in a matter of seconds, with LED indicators showing which platform is active.
Limitations of the Console
Due to size and power constraints, the console does not include physical disc drives, making it a digital-only system. Games are accessed through digital libraries on each platform. Despite this limitation, the console is fully playable, allowing users to jump between platform-exclusive titles without reconnecting cables or changing hardware setups.
Online Reaction and Significance
The project has sparked widespread discussion online. Many gamers and engineers have praised the creativity and technical skill behind the build while acknowledging that it is not a practical consumer product. The console is not officially licensed or endorsed by Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo and is purely a personal engineering experiment.
Still, the Ningtendo PXBOX 5 has become a symbol of what dedicated modders can achieve when pushing hardware beyond its intended limits. For some, it represents a dream of a unified gaming future, while for others, it is simply an impressive showcase of DIY innovation. Either way, the build has firmly established itself as one of the most ambitious console mods seen in recent years.
